Our Creations on Earth: Ideas Always respectfully borrowed from the Others' : )

There is a fiction writer who has been posting her fics to Archive of Our Own.
Just the other day, I came across this fanfiction 'All Over Again (http://archiveofourown.org/works/7986751/chapters/18275635) ' written by tricksterity.

I read the first chapter and found it very interesting and promising even.
But then I noticed that it has stopped at Chapter 8 with the caption there that says 'TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED' written in bold.

I noticed that out of lots of positive responses, there were some comments from the reviewers and the author who were all confused, worried, and concerned.

It seems there was some other fanfiction writer who claims that the author of 'All Over Again' has copied her work and therefor this is 'plagiarism'.
I am NOT here to accuse this other fanfiction writer or anyone else for that matter.
( The author even says this fanfiction writer is very talented and has written wonderful stories featuring Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon Jin. :) )

But the truth is...this fanfiction writer had given the author a permission and the go-ahead when the author asked her if she could borrow some idea from her work.

If any artworks, songs, and books cannot be 'even slightly' similar to each other, our future creators would be too frightened to work on their creations...wondering when / if they are going to be accused of copying while what they did was not actually copying - word for word.

'Imitation is the highest form of flattery' is often heard and even George Lucas did borrow some idea from the Japanese movie 'Seven Samurai' directed by Akira Kurosawa.
Some say Star Wars is the exact copy of Seven Samurai. Well, did Mr Kurosawa accuse Mr Lucas of copying his work, then ?
Mr Kurosawa even said he was honoured to be considered 'influential'.

So, here I am, honestly hoping this fanfiction writer or even Archive of Our Own would go easy on this and let it just go, without being so petty over this.

PS. I happened to have come across the name of the fanfiction writer in question. My goodness ! :) I did have heard the name before.
I mean...I could have read her or his stories and must have loved them even ! :)
This fanfiction writer writes stories which mostly centre around Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon Jin.
Basically, I am an Anakin/Obi-Wan shipper.
But in the stories ( official or not ) set before and during Episode 1, Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon would always be an official pairing to me.
So, I bet I must have read the fics while I was into Episode 1, then. :)

Aww, by the way, I have some Star Wars doujinshi comics ( One O/Q-based, the other A/O-based ) which I don't read anymore, and IF this writer is into Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon that much, she could have it, you know... *ponders*

ANYWAYS. There are four manga artworks of our Star Wars characters to share:
- Anakin/Obi-Wan pics for the author of 'All Over Again'.
- Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon pics for the fanfiction writer whom I hope will make peace with the author.

So even though that person gave the author permission to use her ideas, she later cried PLAGIARISM because she changed her mind or something?? Or did a reader point it out? That's terrible. It would be nice if the author gave at least partial credit to the other person, like at least say "inspired by XXXX" or something like that? I'm assuming she didn't copy a story word-for-word. That truly would be plagiarism if she claimed it as her own.

A buddy of mine who constantly comes up with ideas but hardly ever executes any of them tries to get ME to write them for her :) but I do feel weird taking another person's idea. Recently, we were both talking about something -- an idea of MINE -- and we both started writing fics based on that, thinking it would be cool to post them at the same time and mention that we were tossing the ideas around with each other and this is what we came up with... only I don't think we'll ever post those stories. The original idea was mine, but she added to it, and even if she didn't credit me in a A/N I wouldn't cry plagiarism.

You're right -- creators are constantly borrowing from others. That's why we have tropes! The same things get done over and over. But everything still comes out different... that's art!

Well, I have just checked the fics written by the writer in question. You know, those series are an astounding achievement, if you ask me ! :D

Oh...I just hope she(?) would be a LITTLE more broader-minded and let the author of 'All Over Again' off the hook.

Yes, you are right.
Creators do borrow from others all the time.

And I did have read more than just several SW time travel fics of this kind before. And the story lines of some of these fics were SO VERY similar to each other, believe me ! XD
But...even these fics were all 'unique' in their own ways...in a simple word 'different'. :)
